By All Means Necessary chronicles 50 years of Africa’s Liberation Movement, from Algeria to South Africa, commemorating the various sacrifices made by brave and committed men and women from across the continent. Director Ramadan Suleman’s account of the now often-ignored role of Pan-Africanism in the African liberation project is rich with archival materials and interviews from some of the continent’s most influential voices. The film is a sadly rare look at the history of African unity, a history which still has much to teach us, given the rise of xenophobia in South Africa and the current sense of separation from the rest of the continent.
