This beautifully crafted and highly intelligent film explores the personal experience of a third-generation Holocaust survivor in Berlin. Remarkably honest and frank, the film asks fascinating questions and is a great example of how the more specific an inquiry is, the more it can seem to generate a universal resonance. A master-class in personal documentary filmmaking, it’s refreshing to see the long shadows of the Holocaust addressed in the more politically complex language of the 21st century, a time when it seems that we collectively have better tools to interrogate the history and commonality of violence and oppression.
